Payhip vs Gumroad for selling digital products

Fees on a $10 sale

ScenarioWhat remains before other costs
Payhip Free, standard US Stripe card$8.91
Gumroad standard direct tier$7.91
Gumroad Discover$7.00
Bookstorez Free (ours)$8.50

This is a US seller, domestic card and pre-tax price. Subscriptions, ads and refunds are excluded. Payhip's paid plans reduce its platform percentage; Gumroad's direct percentage changes after its monthly threshold. The full arithmetic and primary sources and calculator cover these differences.

Discovery and product limits

Payhip has a marketplace, subject to eligibility and approval. Gumroad Discover uses its separate fee. Both also support buyers following product links. Read current upload and permitted-product rules before moving a catalogue; a lower fee is not useful if the product cannot be sold there.

Tax and getting paid

Gumroad describes itself as merchant of record. Payhip's pricing page lists digital EU/UK VAT and US/Canadian sales-tax collection and remittance. These are different descriptions of responsibility; check coverage for your product and country. Payhip says sales are deposited after a transaction, while settlement into your bank depends on the payment provider. See Gumroad's payout rules for its schedule and requirements.
