Short version: browsing sets no cookies until you say yes on the banner, and the site works exactly the same if you say no. Signing in sets one strictly necessary cookie that keeps you signed in.

Before you choose
No cookies are set. Google Tag Manager, the script that holds our measuring tags, loads with every page with analytics marked as not agreed: in that state it sets no cookies and Google Analytics cannot recognise you from one page to the next. Loading it does mean your browser contacts Google, as it would for any file Google serves. Your choice on the banner is kept in your browser's local storage under the name tz-cookie-choice, which is not a cookie and never leaves your device.
If you accept
Google Analytics is switched on and sets these cookies to tell one visitor from another and remember a session:

We use the reports to see which pages help and where visitors come from. We do not use advertising features.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link in the footer. Choosing No after an earlier Yes deletes Google's cookies for this site and reloads the page without them.
If you sign in
Signing in sets one strictly necessary cookie so the site knows it is you on the next page. It needs no consent, it is set only after you sign in with a code or link, and it goes when you sign out.
