How to sell planners online

By Bookstorez · Updated

A planner earns its place by helping someone use it repeatedly. Start with a particular routine and choose whether it is meant for paper or a specific annotation app.

1. Choose the routine before the layout

Decide who uses it, when they open it and what they need to record. A shift worker's weekly planner may need different spaces from a student's revision planner. Make one representative page and ask someone to use it for a week before creating a large pack.

2. Separate printable and digital editions

A printable needs tested paper sizes and margins. A digital planner may need hyperlinks, tabs and compatibility with an annotation app. State which app and version you tested, and whether the buyer needs to purchase software separately. An attractive mock-up does not demonstrate working links.

3. Check dates, navigation and writing space

For dated planners, check the calendar, leap years and weekday starts. For undated versions, show how buyers fill in dates. Test navigation in the actual exported file. Use the page at normal size: tiny writing areas are hard to spot when designing on a large monitor.

4. Make the product page specific

Show an empty page and a completed example. List page count, file type, orientation and paper sizes. Say whether dates are included and whether the product is editable. Browse planners and templates for presentation approaches, then create your own samples.

Compare the cost before you choose

For a $10 pre-tax sale by a US seller using a domestic card, Bookstorez Free leaves $8.50, Payhip Free with Stripe $8.91, Gumroad's standard direct tier $7.91, and Etsy $8.60 including one listing fee. Subscriptions, ads, refunds and tax are excluded. These are fee examples, not forecasts of demand. See the dated primary sources and assumptions or calculate your own price and volume.

Bookstorez is our own global digital marketplace. Free includes 3 live products, at 12% + 30¢ per sale with card fees and tax handling included. Buyers can browse the catalogue; no extra cut applies to marketplace sales. A catalogue place is not a promise of sales. Your own storefront and built-in AI ebook generator are included, with featured-product allowances on Creator and Pro. Compare creation tools, featured placements and plan limits.

5. Support one edition before expanding

Illustrative example: an undated weekly planner with Monday and Sunday starts. Explain how to choose the right file and print at actual size. Answer early questions before adding trackers, covers and bundles. A smaller product that works is easier to maintain.

Questions

Is a digital planner the same as a printable?
Not necessarily. A printable is designed for paper. A digital planner may include navigation and layouts tested in an annotation app. Describe and test the edition you sell.
Should I make a dated or undated planner?
Choose around the buyer's routine. Dated editions need calendar checks and maintenance; undated editions need clear instructions.
